Will you go out with me?
"Will you go out with me?" in Korean is 나랑 사귈래? (narang sagwillae?). It comes from 사귀다 (sagwida), "to date" or "to be in a relationship". To ask politely, say 저랑 사귈래요? (jeorang sagwillaeyo?).
Ways to say it
| Korean | Level | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| 나랑 사귈래? narang sagwillae? | Casual | The classic confession question, to someone your age or younger, or someone you already speak casually with. |
| 저랑 사귈래요? jeorang sagwillaeyo? | Polite | Polite. Use it if you still speak politely to the person, for example an older coworker. |
| 우리 사귀자 uri sagwija | Casual | "Let's go out." More direct and confident than a question. |
| 사귀자 sagwija | Casual | Just "Let's date." Short and bold. |
| 나랑 사귀어 줄래? narang sagwieo jullae? | Casual | A softer, slightly shy way to ask, like "Would you go out with me?" |

Tips
사귀다 means to officially start a relationship, not to go on one date. To ask for a single date, people say something like 주말에 영화 볼래? ("Want to see a movie this weekend?").
Korean dating often starts with a clear confession, called 고백 (gobaek). Many couples count their anniversary from that day and celebrate 100 days, 200 days and so on.
The period of flirting before anyone confesses is called 썸 (sseom).
