What does 어디 (eodi) mean?
- 어디eodi
Where
Fine in most situations
어디 (eodi) means "where" in Korean. It is the word you use to ask where someone is, where something is, or where they are going.
Where it comes from
어디 is a basic question word. Particles attach to it: 어디에 (at where), 어디서 (from where, at where), 어디로 (to where).
How to use 어디
어디 itself has no politeness level, the ending does. 어디야? is casual, 어디예요? is polite, and 어디세요? is respectful, often used on the phone.
어디 가? can mean "Where are you going?" or "Are you going somewhere?" depending on intonation. Koreans often ask it as a friendly greeting without really needing the answer.
어디 아파? (Where does it hurt? / Are you sick?) and 어디 보자 (Let me see) are other common uses.
